living the Aalberts values: go for excellence

this month’s nominee: Erik Boelens

This month we would like to put the spotlight on an employee that embodies the value “go for excellence.” For this value, Erik Boelens was nominated by Victor Schut, manager SCM Pneutec. Erik is Team Leader Warehouse Pneutec and has been with the company in one role or another for 18 years. He is known for his commitment, can-do mentality, and for serving as a role model for all those around him.

Why did we nominate Erik for this value?

This value is truly in his DNA and manifests itself in all aspects of his work. His tireless commitment, positive outlook, and willingness to always go the extra mile are admired by many. He has shown us how leading by example can carry a team through difficult times. In addition, accurate work is of paramount importance to Erik. It is a pleasure to work with him and together contribute to the growth and development of Pneutec.

How would you describe him in three words or phrases?

committed, can-do mentality, role model

Do they have any special achievements you’d like to share?

We recently had to move part of our warehouse to accommodate our clean room expansion. Erik has shown exemplary leadership during this challenging period and has helped the warehouse team overcome the trying circumstances and keep operations up and running.

Erik, how long have you worked here?

I started at Pneutec at Opaallaan 14 as a warehouse employee back in August 2004. Pneutec was still a small family business with two people in production and two people in the warehouse. Then Pneutec started to grow, the building at the Opaallaan became too small, and a move was inevitable. When production had grown so much that it no longer fit in as an additional task in the warehouse, I started concentrating on all the work preceding the production process. I was closely involved in setting up work preparation in our warehouse from the beginning. In 2018 I was offered a new challenge: production planning. I accepted, partly because it would be a huge step for me in really understanding everything that runs in the background within the factory. I did this for about two years, then got an offer to become team leader in our warehouse. This was a good and logical step forward, and I have been doing it since February 2021 to my full satisfaction.

How do you feel about this value? Do you think it applies to you?

I think this value applies to me as well as my team. In my current position, I am a link between customer service, planning, and production, cooperating with them to serve our customers as well and reliably as possible. Sometimes this is a challenge, but fortunately nobody avoids it here. The entire team works every day with the aim of optimizing all processes and ensuring that the departments involved remain well connected. This makes sure that everyone feels responsible and success is everyone’s business.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I am enjoying my new role a lot. I feel comfortable and enjoy working with the other departments to do the best job we can for our customers.

Do you have a fun fact about yourself to share with us?

In my spare time, I walk a lot with our three dogs. I am currently busy preparing for my family’s move to Akersloot. Furthermore, my hobby is car detailing (removing wax scratches). I don’t get to do it very often; the jobs usually take a day or two and that does not always fit into the busy schedule.
