At Aalberts advanced mechatronics, we work with cutting edge technologies to deliver innovative solutions to demanding customers who are growing fast. To carry out this exciting and challenging work, we need people who are eager to learn and find ways to work faster and smarter. One of our colleagues who embodies this passion for excellence is Roman Voelker, Design Engineer at ISEL.
impressed by technology
Prior to joining ISEL, Roman did an apprenticeship as an electronics engineer and worked in a salt mine at a German mining company, then earned a Bachelor’s in engineering at the Ferdinand-Braun-Schule vocational school. During his Bachelor’s he visited nearby ISEL’s Technology Days, and was so impressed by the company’s wide range of products and technologies that he decided to do his research project there.
That project involved developing a system containing all the components required to control a CNC system, and Roman enjoyed it so much that he decided to take a job at ISEL upon graduating. “The project was interesting and we had a lot of fun,” he explains. “I also found the environment to be friendly, it was easy to get started since I already knew a lot of people through the project, plus ISEL is just a 20-minute drive from where I live.”
work that’s never monotonous
Roman started working for ISEL as a Design Engineer this past August. Thus far he has been focused on things like planning and modifying systems; obtaining quotations; contacting suppliers; and collaborating with other departments. During his most recent project, he developed a procedure for the annual appliance inspection which will be used at Pneutec’s site in Eiterfeld. “The work here is never monotonous and I’m learning a lot,” he says.
Roman has been able to hit the ground running, since he was already familiar with ISEL and the work through his school project. He’s also been able to enroll in training courses to get to know the new tools he’s using. Which is not to say it’s always been easy. “You do have to grow into a new position,” he says. “For example, I still get very nervous in meetings sometimes. Fortunately, my colleagues are very friendly and give me lots of tips and tricks. This makes things much more relaxed and I don’t get the feeling of being the new kid on the block.”
immediately given a lot of trust
In fact, the feeling Roman gets is quite the opposite. “Something that I really appreciate about working here is that everyone is allowed to contribute their opinion and express ideas or suggestions – even a new person like me,” he explains. “When I started working here, I was immediately given a lot of trust from my manager. This trust has allowed me to focus on my work and strengthened my motivation to do a good job.”
That motivation is abundantly clear when Roman talks about his goals. “I want to do my best in my new job and achieve good results, grow and take on more responsibility and work on bigger and bigger projects, and dive further into the subject matter and gain experience,” he says. “However, for now I want to focus on absorbing everything properly so that I can put what I’ve learned into practice and avoid mistakes. After all, a good induction takes time!”
